Church of Timios Prodromos (saint John the Forerunner)

Feast day: August 29

The foundation stone of the church of Timios Prodromos was laid by Chrysostomos, Metropolitan of Kition on 18 September 2005. It was completed in 2007 and was inaugurated by Barnabas, Metropolitan of Trimythous, on 25 May 2008. It is a three-aisled basilica with a dome. The church has three apses, each corresponding to an aisle, as well as to a separate Holy Altar. The central one is dedicated to the Beheading of saint John the Forerunner; the south one to his parents, Zacharias and Elisabeth; and the northern one to the Elevation of the Holy and Life-giving Cross, as a sign of gratitude to the Monastery of Stavrovouni, which funded the construction of the church.

At the northwest end of the church there is a chapel dedicated to saint Luke the Evangelist, saint Kallinikos, and saint Christophoros. The church has two bell towers (south-west and north-west), each of five levels. The entrances are preceded by open-arched arcades, covered by tiles. The windows are double- or triple-arched, while those of the drum of the dome and the bell tower are mono-lobed. The feast day of the church is on the 29th of August.
