Church of Panagia
Feast day: August 15
The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin. The vaulted single-aisled church with the four-sided apse is small in size. It is made of stone and it has a steep-pitched wooden roof. It dates to the end of the 18th century. The bell tower made of stone, which is a later addition, was constructed above the superstructure, at the south-east end. There are four doors, one on each side of the church, including the eastern one in the apse. The windows (two on each side) have decorative stone frames, while the doors have simple stone jambs. The pediment of the tympanum of the south entrance is decorated by a relief depicting a rose, while a little higher in a shallow alcove, the Virgin is depicted in the type of Glykophilousa (in Greek “Sweet-kissing” or “Loving Kindness”). The church holds important icons, such as those of Virgin Mary and saint James the Brother of the Lord, which are attributed to the great Cypriot painter of the 16th century, Loukas Tochnitis. The feast day of the church is on the 15th of August.
