Chapel of saint Georgios

Feast day: April 23

The single-aisled chapel with the gabled roof and the semicircular apse is built of stone, with entrances both on the western and on the southern sides. The simple wooden belfry is adjacent to the southwest end of the chapel. The exact date of its construction is unknown. The oldest references to the chapel are found in the Codex of the Metropolis of Kition and refer to the financial control of the committee of the church for the years 1785 and 1806. Until 1950 the chapel functioned as a girls’ school. When the main church of Skarinou, dedicated to Panagia Odigitria, was demolished in order to build a bigger one, the chapel of saint Georgios was reopened for services. The church houses a wood-carved iconostasis and icons, including the devotional  icon of saint Georgios, both from the 19th century. The feast day of the chapel is on the 23rd of April.
