Chapel of Saint Evfimianos
Feast day: November 14
The stone-built chapel dedicated to saint Evfimianos is a replica of the homonymous one in the occupied village of Lysi (Famagusta province), which was looted after the Turkish invasion of 1974. It was erected by the Municipality of Lysi and the Cypriot Scout Corps. It was inaugurated in 2016. It is a single-aisled, domed church with a semicircular apse. According to the inscription that no longer exists, the donor of the original church of saint Evfimianos was hieromonk Lavrentios, abbot of the Monastery of saint Andronikos. The church is decorated with frescoes painted by Michael Koullepos from Lysi. Fragments of the original frescoes were repatriated from the USA in 2012 and are temporarily exhibited at the Byzantine Museum of Archbishop Makarios III Foundation. In the basement of the church, in a specially designed space, there is an exhibition showcasing the looted cultural heritage of saint Evfimianos, as well as assets from the rest of the occupied areas of Cyprus. The feast day of the chapel is on the 14th of November.
